The hearing of the corruption case against former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been adjourned to June 19.

Lawyer John Swaka told the court that Waititu was still admitted in hospital.

Waititu’s wife Susan Wangari was present in court after the court directed her to appear in today's mention.

Magistrate Thomas Nzioki adjourned the hearing that was to start on Monday saying it was due to Waititu’s sickness.

Swaka also produced medical records as had been directed by the court to show that his client was in the hospital.

However, the court declined to give dates in July as had been requested by Swaka saying if Waititu will not have recovered by June 19 or will be on bed rest then he will join court virtually.

Swaka had urged the court to give dates in July saying June is too soon and they are not sure if he will have recovered by then.

Waititu is alleged to have collapsed at his home and was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital and thus could not be able to attend his hearing.

The prosecution has two more witnesses remaining.

They include a document examiner and the investigating officer to close their case.

In the case, Waititu, his wife Susan Wangari and three others are facing trial over the irregular award of Sh588 million roads tender in Kiambu.

The tender in question was issued on February 12, 2018, and awarded to Testimony Enterprise owned by its directors Charles Chege and Beth Wangeci after quoting Sh588 million.

It was for upgrading of various gravel roads in Thika, Limuru, Gatundu North, Juja, and Ruiru sub counties during the financial year 2017-2018.

Investigating agencies say the tender was irregularly awarded and that's how the matter landed in court.
