Eight killed in separate accidents in Bungoma and Nairobi

At least eight people were killed in separate accidents in Bungoma, Voi, Ruiru and Nairobi.

The first incident happened Wednesday, June 7 where three people were killed in an accident involving two motorcycles along the Chwele-Kimilili road, Bungoma.

Police said a rider who was heading to Kimilili from Chwele recklessly tried to overtake another one.

In the process, the rider collided head-on with another motorcyclist from the opposite direction that had a female pillion passenger at Chwele Bridge.

Locals claimed the accident happened as one of the riders involved in the 11 am incident escaped police who were chasing him as he carried illicit brew.

“Due to the impact, both riders and the pillion passenger died on the spot,” police said.

The bodies were moved to Bungoma County Referral Hospital morgue pending autopsy.

A crowd congregated at the scene following the incident as police said they will investigate it.

In Nairobi, police said three people were killed in separate incidents.

The first incident happened along Thika Road near Roasters area where a pedestrian was hit and killed by a speeding car whose driver had lost its control.

Along Outering Road, a motorcyclist died on Tuesday after he rammed into a lorry. He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said another rider died in an accident along Thika Road in Pangani area in a hit-and-run incident.

 

The rider was carrying a 12-year-old boy when a speeding car hit the boda boda killing the man. The pillion passenger who was said to be his son was seriously injured and admitted in hospital, police said.

The search for the car involved in the accident is ongoing, police said.

In Ruiru, a rider was Tuesday killed after his bodaboda was hit from behind by a speeding car. The rider fell off the motorcycle and died on the spot.

At Manyani along Mombasa highway, a prison warden was killed after he was run over by a lorry.

Cornelius Kipkoech, 29 was run over by the lorry on Tuesday after he tried to jump onto it as it sped out of the Manyani prisons.

The bodies were moved to mortuaries pending autopsy and probe.

National traffic commandant Mary Omari regretted the incidents terming them a big loss to the society.

Cases of fatal accidents are on the rise amid campaigns to address the trend.
