Digital identity key for efficient service delivery – Owalo

Says it will widen revenue base and facilitate sustainable economic growth.

Information and  Technology Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo on Monday chaired the ongoing G20 DGI Summit in India that consisted of panelists from different states.

During the meeting, they discussed the global digital identity journey that will analyse the challenges and opportunities that are to be pursued digitally by the people.

"A digital identity is a virtual means through which citizens will be easily and validly identified for enhanced delivery of digital services," Owalo said.

Owalo said that the panelists shared experiences from their respective countries and the value generated by rolling out a digital identity as an integral component of Digital Public Infrastructure.

In a tweet, the CS said there is progress in the country under the Kenya Kwanza government to facilitate efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery.

He added that digital identity will widen the revenue base and facilitate sustainability in economic growth and development.

"Kenya is making fundamental progress in digital transformation under the Kenya Kwanza government led by President William Ruto to facilitate efficiency in service delivery," he said.

The panel chaired by Owalo comprised of Jonathan Marskell, Senior Programme Officer of World Bank and Vivek Raghavan, Chief AI Expert of EkStep Foundation.

Others were Rene C. Mendoza, Assistant National Statistician for Systems and Information Security Service of Philippines and Barbara Ubaldi, acting Head of the Division on Open and Innovative Governments.
