Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hit out at police who take bribes to protect drug and illicit alcohol dealers.

Speaking in Chuka on Monday during a stakeholders’ forum to deliberate on ending illicit brew and substance abuse in the Eastern Region, the DP called on the officers to act as parents and protect the interests of children in the country.

He further said that they should treat other people’s children in the same manner they would like theirs to be treated as God in heaven was watching.

“God has a way of punishing people. If you take bribes for drugs to spoil other people's children, there's a God in heaven. You too have children and you have relatives,” he said.

He said the money received from bribes from drugs and illicit alcohol cannot take them anywhere as money easily acquired is also lost easily.

“That is why when traffic police get a signal to go home, most of them collapse because they are used to getting money from the road every day,” he said.

“Money that you get cheaply and that causes pain to other people it goes that easily so you find these officers have saved nothing.”

He further blamed the drug and alcohol use menace in the country on the previous regime, noting that the former government turned a blind eye on the issue and instead deployed national government administration officers ‘to market BBI and to sell project azimio.'
