Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has said leaders should fully adhere to party positions or phase disciplinary action.
His remarks were in reference to the controversial Finance Bill, 2023 on which members of parliament took a vote Thursday evening after a long battle of debate.
The Bill sailed through at the second reading stage after 176 MPs voted to endorse its enactment while 81 opposition MPs voted to reject it.
In a video shared online on Friday, the outspoken lawmaker said if the party leaders direct that members should follow a certain position, they all should obey without question.
“Tunataka order, rais akisema yes, wote tunasema yes, akisema jump, tunauliza, Your Excellency, how high can we jump?" he said.
(We want order, if the President says yes, we all must say yes, if he says jump, we ask, your Excellency, how high?)
The senator suggested that UDA members who voted against the Finance Bill, 2023 should face disciplinary action.
"We must allow what we call party positions, if the party has directed that you make a certain position, one must follow it, otherwise, you'll be dealt with according to the law," he said.
The ODM has already stated that it will take disciplinary action against 28 MPs who either voted for the Bill or absconded the session.
The party has written to the members, including national chair John Mbadi, asking them to show course why they should not be punished for the oversight.
President William Ruto and Azimio leader under which ODM falls had forewarned their troops in Parliament that there would be consequences for those who would vote on the Bill against their parties' position.
Azimio MPs on Thursday walked out of the Chamber as soon as Treasury CS Njunguna Ndungu started presenting Ruto's Sh3.68 trillion budget.
But Cherargei said despite the opposition, the Kenya Kwanza government was elected to work and deliver its mandate to the people of Kenya.
"Sisi ni watu wa kazi, Kenya Kwanza, UDA, na hii ndiyo serikali iko kwa sasa (We in Kenya Kwanza, UDA are people who are for work, and this it the government of the day)," he said.
