President William Ruto has said Kenya will partner with the United Arab Emirates to ensure the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference succeeds.

He spoke on Tuesday at State House where he met the UAE Minister for Industry and Cooperatives, Sultan Al-Jaber.

Al-Jaber is also the designated President for COP28.

“We are determined to work hand in hand to ensure Cop28 and the African Climate Action Summit will deliver real and tangible results for the climate as well as the people of Africa, and the world,” he said.

Ruto said that the pre-conference climate meetings in Paris and Nairobi will help to fashion an agreement that is acceptable to all.

The two nations said these events will provide an opportunity for the international community to agree on a future path that focuses on practical solutions to climate change.

“The African Climate Action Summit and Cop28 will be milestones in the year of the global stocktake, for the international community to come together and provide solutions for the future," they said.

Ruto and Al-Jaber said they are looking forward to COP 28 as a turning point in climate action.

“We will work together to facilitate the highest possible ambition across every climate pillar at Cop28,” he said.

Kenya is set to host the Africa Climate Week in Nairobi from September 4 to September 8.

The summit is set ahead of the Cop28 event at Expo City in Dubai.
