Residents and the family of the Bungoma GK prison Aggrey Akoyo are demanding answers over his death.

The deceased stayed in Milimani Estate in Bungoma town.

Speaking to the Star on Wednesday, the Western regional commissioner Irungu Macharia said Akoyo died while still in charge of the Bungoma GK prisons.

“I received the news of the sudden death of my friend with dismay and disbelief. This was one of the best officers we had,” Macharia said.

He said the deceased was healthy and did not complain of any pain until his untimely death.

“From the reports, Akoyo did not complain about anything. He has always related well with others and worked well,” he said.

The regional boss added that on Tuesday, the deceased reported to work as usual but returned to the house at around midday to rest.

That was the last time the deceased was seen at the facility.

Macharia noted that Akoyo's house helper tried reaching him on the phone but calls went answered.

"He was later found dead in his house at around noon on Wednesday," he said.

The body was picked up by the police officers and taken to Lifecare Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
