Senate Health Committee probing the death of Wakili Wachira J.M at Murang’a Level 4 Hospital has embarked on an inspection tour of the county’s health facilities.

Muranga Senator Joe Nyutu on May 22, asked the committee to explain the circumstances that led to the death of Wachira at the facility on May 17.

“Disclose the state of health facilities including availability of medical oxygen and ambulance services at the hospital during the time of his demise,” he said.

He wants the committee to also report on the overall state of health facilities in the county.

He said the committee should state the type of medical services and procedures provided at the various hospitals and whether they have adequate competent staff and sufficient wards to admit patients.

“State whether hospitals have adequate drugs and related supplies to meet patient demands, outlining types and quality available,” he said.

He further wants the committee to address allegations that doctors employed in the county hospitals are directing patients to go to private facilities owned by the same practitioners.

The committee will start the tour with a courtesy call to Governor Irungu Kang’ata at his office and a visit to the county assembly.

The lawmakers will then visit Muriranja Health facility before going to Maragua Hospital.

They will then visit Murang’a Level 4 Hospital before holding another meeting with the governor.
