A section of leaders from the Gusii region have promised to work together in supporting the Kenya Premier League returnees, Shabana Football Club.

The leaders, who spoke during a special dinner hosted in honour of the club's successful exploits in the National Super League, said they will stop at nothing in supporting the club.

Shabana has earned promotion to the country's top-flight league with three matches to go after 17 years in the cold.

The leaders said they will work together to return Shabana to its past glory when it was a major force to reckon with in national football.

"I want to take it upon myself to see to it that Shabana will never ever look back," said Kisii Governor Simba Arati at Hotel Kempinski when he hosted the team.

"I want to appreciate other leaders who have contributed in a small or big way and as the patron, I want to assure you that nothing will go wrong."

Arati spoke moments after he was installed as the club's new patron and handed the certificate by Shabana chairman Jared Nivaton.

Nyamira Senator Okong'o Omogeni said the club should serve as a rallying call to unite the Abagusii community.

"All leaders from Kisii and Nyamira counties will rally behind Shabana to win the premier league," he said.

Okong'o said the community will pride itself in the club like in the old days when leaders closed the ranks to speak in one voice on Shabana matters.

Kisii County Assembly Speaker Phillip Nyanumba asked leaders from across the political divide to join hands and work for the club's progress.

"Let's unite and propel Shabana to the next level; I want to call on our leaders to order and that let us support the club," he said.

County Woman Representative Doris Donya asked leaders to stop politicising football matters and instead use it as a force to bring the community together.

She promised that going forward, her office will see how to come in and support the club while at the same time investing in growing and nurturing talent.

Governor Arati has already announced that an unnamed investor is willing to pump a Sh20 million sponsorship into Shabana.

He also said should Shabana win the Premier League title then the club will get a bonus of Sh10 million in addition.

Shabana will on Tuesday host Mully Children’s Family (MCF) before traveling to Murang’a for a game against title rivals Murang’a Seal on July 2.

They will conclude the league against Kisumu All Stars at Gusii Stadium.
