Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has ordered the immediate arrest and dismissal of a chief for sabotaging the fight against illicit brews.

Speaking during a funeral in Nyeri, Gachagua did not name the administrator only calling for stern action to be taken against him.

The chief, according to the DP, was boozing at a local pub during his visit to the area wondering how an officer could be drinking at 1 pm.

"Right now, there is a chief drinking at the bar right now. I will give you his name so that you can go arrest him. If a chief is drunk how will he deal with the alcohol here?" he told the Nyeri county commissioner.

Gachagua said he was informed of the chief's actions by residents at his Mathira residence.

"You will have to find his replacement. There is no drunk chief who will work in this government. They will decide whether they want to drink or work," he stated.

He argued that such officers drinking when they are supposed to be working is a disgrace to the nation.

The DP is spearheading a campaign on ending illicit brews in the country saying its continued misuse was likely to wipe out future generations.

Speaking during a stakeholders forum in Chuka, Tharaka Nithi last month on ending illicit brew and substance abuse, Gachagua told the police, chiefs, and their assistants to work and deliver results.

He has been categorical that administrators who are not ready to deliver on the mandate will be sacked.

While speaking in Meru, the DP said, "Here in Meru, how many chiefs and Assistant chiefs do you have? When we fire 10 percent of them there is no problem. Some will not work as we instruct them, we will have to show them the door."
