Legio Maria church has called on President William Ruto to call Azimio leader Raila Odinga and agree on how best Kenyan problems can be addressed “without much drama.”

In a statement, Rt, Rev. Wycliffe Nyaperah regretted that both the government and opposition have already taken a hard-line stand on how issues affecting Kenyans could be addressed.

Nyaperah said the talks between the two leaders should revolve around reducing the cost of living, and nothing else.

“Call your brother Raila and talk. Fix the high prices of commodities. Avoid overtaxing your people. Work with what you have. Listen more to the inner voice,” he stated.

Nyaperah added that the police and opposition showdown will not help solve anything for Kenyans.

“If the recent developments are anything to go by, then we are on the verge of collapse as a country. A country of adamant people who don’t listen to each other,” he stated.

Nyaperah said the Saba Saba demonstrations last week posed a high risk to many Kenyans.

“It is just by the Grace of God that things didn’t go out of hand and we pray they don’t go there,” he added.

He added that the talks should happen before the planned Wednesday, July 12, 2023 demonstrations by the opposition party.

“It is time to have a National Conversation. The country is ours. In times of disagreement, talks should always come first and be given priority. In any competition, always seek to shake hands with the loser,” he stated.

Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has announced that it will continue with the countrywide anti-government protests on Wednesday.

Opposition leaders have vowed to intensify the demos from what was witnessed last Friday during Saba Saba Day.

Raila has told Kenyans to brace themselves for demonstrations in all parts of the country as the coalition embarks on a mass signature collection excise purportedly to delegitimise the ruling Kenya Kwanza government.
