The urge for sexual satisfaction is pushing many men's sex enhancement pills to achieve their desires and Viagra tops the list.

The pills are being used by some men to quench their sexual thirst.

In most cases, nights of passion have turned out to be disastrous as some men have ended up losing their lives.

Doctors say viagra helps men with erection dysfunction problems to maintain an erection by increasing blood flow to the penis.

However, some men have experienced heart problems and strokes after taking the infamous blue pill.

Today, Dr Boniface Opondo explains some side of the effects caused by the use of the drug

Opondo says viagra is a drug and must be taken under instructions.

He says people are misusing the drug because they want to sustain their erection for long hours.

"You will sometimes find that they are hypertensive people who are on medication to lower their pressure. And at the same time they take viagra which in turn will lower their pressure further putting their lives at risk," Opondo explained.

He says the recreational use of the drug has made it famous because of its misuse and abuse as opposed to its medical use.

"Viagra is supposed to be prescribed but you will find it being sold everywhere. Even young men who are still healthy and energetic are using it, meaning their erectile issues will come up at an early stage because their bodies will get used to it,"Opondo said.

The expert is advising those who want to use the drug for sexual dysfunctions to do it under instructions from a medical doctor.

"If it is for sexual dysfunctions, use it in the required doses," Opondo said.

"If you are going to buy it over the counter it means you are going to buy it in large quantities contrary to what is prescribed because nobody examines you to evaluate what you need and how many milligrams you need."

Opondo says people with chronic heart conditions like severe hypertension, diabetes, stroke and heart attack should never use viagra.

He also wants the use of the drug to adhere to directives issued by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
