Police officers were forced to lob teargas canisters to disperse residents at the Kondele roundabout.

Residents engaged the officers in running battles as they closed one side.

In Jua Kali area, the same was also witnessed with officers lobbying teargas to disperse the crowds.

People carrying sufurias and Ugali on their heads were seen during the protest.

Within Patel's roundabout, water cannons were on standby.

In Ahero, residents barricaded the roads and lit fire at Ahero Bridge making it impassable for motorists in and out of Kisumu.

They blocked the road using stones.

Shops were all closed even as those who started operating in the early morning hurriedly closed down over fear that they can be marked.

"We had earlier opened our shops because we don't operate along the road, but as of now we have closed because some protesters gained access to this end," a businesswoman said.

In Awasi Onjiko, the area leadership led protests along the streets even as born fires were lit with people coming out in large numbers to join others in the protests.
