13,439 slots targetting diploma teacher training courses are up for grabs after Education CS Ezekiel Machogu on Saturday launched the exercise.
The placement will see applicants enrolled in 32 public teacher training centres across the country.
Speaking at Kangaru school in Embu County on Saturday, CS Machogu said that applicants must have attained a minimum mean grade of C (plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
"The minimum requirement is a mean grade of C (plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination. There are no additional subject requirements," Machogu announced as he presided over an education and career guidance day at the institution.
According to the Ministry of Education, successful applicants will be enrolled in Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) and Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) courses.
The available admission slots for the DPTE programme are 11,358, while the DECTE course has 2,081.
In a statement to newsrooms, Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) CEO Alice Wahome lauded the move, saying it will serve as an amazing opportunity for all qualified KCSE holders.
"This opportunity is for qualified KCSE certificate holders including non-Kenyan citizens who sat the exam in 2022 or earlier until the year 2000," Wahome said.
The placement of trainees will be handled by KUCCPS, which has opened its online portal for the application.
According to Wahome, the portal will remain open until July 28, 2023.
