The National Police Service has issued a traffic alert at the Likoni Ferry channel.

On Sunday, police warned motorists of the impending traffic jam at the busy channel.

"The National Police Service wishes to inform the public that there is a heavy traffic jam at the Likoni Ferry as of today July 16, 2023, 1400hrs," police said.

Motorists travelling from Nairobi to Mombasa were thus advised to use Samburu-Kinangop road in order to access the South Coast.

"Entering Mombasa through the South Coast will be a way of decongesting the Likoni Ferry," police said.

Details of what is causing the traffic snarl-up at the busy channel are still scanty.

The 50 km stretch of the Kinango-Samburu Road was built at a cost of Sh2 billion.

The new road connects Kwale County with the busy Mombasa-Nairobi highway at Samburu and the Likoni-Lunga Lunga road at Kombani.
