President William Ruto has said it is imperative that Kenya and Egypt have strong relations.

Ruto on Sunday said strong Kenya-Egypt relations are beneficial for the pursuit of a more united and prosperous Africa.

"Together with other countries, we will work to end conflict and suffering in the Sudan and across Africa," Ruto said.

He spoke after meeting the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The two Heads of State met on the sidelines of the Fifth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union, the Regional Economic Communities, the Regional Mechanisms and the African Union Member States at the United Nations Complex in Gigiri, Nairobi.

Ruto said the two countries will work together to promote trade and investment and advance climate action to create a better future for Africa's people.

This comes as Ruto called for a ceasefire among the warring groups in Sudan.

Ruto asked the parties pushing for stability in Sudan to work together for fruitful realisation of their plan.

"IGAD and Jeddah Processes must consolidate their efforts to facilitate the realisation of a permanent ceasefire in the country," the Head of State said.

He added that the union will skillfully push for access to humanitarian assistance, protection of refugees as well as the reactivation of the Political Process.

"This will lay the foundation for lasting peace in Sudan," the Head of State explained.

Ruto was speaking on Saturday night after a telephone consultation with the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council of Sudan General Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman al-Burhan

In his capacity as the Chair of the IGAD Quartet of Heads of States on Sudan, Ruto also spoke with the President of Chad General Mahamet Idriss Deby Itno.

The two Heads of State agreed on the acceleration of the restoration of normalcy in Sudan and support to refugee-hosting countries.
