Azimio has stated that this week's protests are not about Kenyans fighting each other but a struggle by citizens to push the government to listen to their plight.

Speaking on Monday after a meeting of elected Azimio MPs, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said their supporters will not attack other Kenyans.

"We will not fight our fellow countrymen," declared Sifuna ahead of the protests planned for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The Nairobi Senator said just like the way Azimio supporters are struggling with the high cost of living, so are those from the Kenya Kwanza side.

"We are telling our fellow Kenyans that we are not the enemy, we are not the ones adding taxes. You can't come and fight your fellow hustlers in the streets," he said at a press briefing at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation.

The MP claimed that Kenya Kwanza MPs had been tasked by the government to mobilise their supporters to attack Azimio protesters on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

"If Azimio supporters are sleeping hungry, then the Kenya Kwanza supporters are also sleeping hungry," he said.

He claimed that there was a meeting at State House on Saturday in which he alleged that the MPs were directed to plan counter-demonstrations in their constituencies.

Sifuna said the meeting was necessitated by a firm position taken by the police who allegedly declined a shoot-to-kill order.

''We have received intelligence that some senior police commanders have chosen to ignore directive given to shoot protesters and that is why the president had to call a Parliamentary Group Meeting and told MPs to bring goons to harm the protesters,'' he said.
