Police are interrogating a woman who was found carrying a doping substance at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The woman had arrived at the airport from Mumbai when assorted medication was found in her bags.

Among the medication was triamcinolone acetonide injection, a substance scheduled in the world anti-doping prohibited list.

Police said she had no licence or any other document to import, handle or deal in such medicaments.

She told police she was prescribed by her doctors to buy the medicine to treat her skin conditions. But those handling the matter said she did not have any document to suggest so.

The officials confiscated the substance and asked her to report back for further investigations.

Triamcinolone acetonide injection is a synthetic corticosteroid medication used topically to treat various skin conditions, to relieve the discomfort of mouth sores, and by injection into joints to treat various joint conditions.

The skin conditions include eczema, dermatitis, allergies, rash but officials say one needs a permit to handle the medicine.

Doping has been a major growing threat in the country.

In competitive sports, doping is the use of banned athletic performance-enhancing drugs by athletic competitors, as a way of cheating.

As part of efforts to address the menace, officials at various entry points have been supplied with the list of prohibited substances under the issue of doping.

The Ministry of Sports has established the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) whose vision is to be a world-class Anti-Doping Agency, protecting clean athletes and promoting fair play.
