Haki Africa Executive Director Hussein Khalid has raised concern over the ongoing nationwide anti-government protests.
Khalid said HAKI is deeply perturbed by reports from different parts of the country as Kenyans get entangled in yet another day of protests this Wednesday.
"We regret to learn of more incidences of police shootings leading to loss of Kenyans' lives in the Mathare area of Nairobi as well as Migori," Khalid said.
He condemned the killings, insisting that police must at all times exercise restraint and avoid using excessive force in quelling protests.
Further, he said he has received information from their partners in Nyando who allege that the office of human rights defenders - Nyando Social Justice Centre -was burnt down after police allegedly threw several teargas canisters inside the office setting it ablaze.
"If these allegations are correct, then it will be very worrying as police are required to protect property, not destroy it," he said.
Khalid also condemned incidences of violence and arson by criminal protestors who have burnt tyres, barricaded streets and threw stones at police officers.
He said protesters must at all times ensure they carry themselves peacefully to avoid clashing with the police.
Khalid called on Azimio Chief Raila Odinga and President William Ruto to call on their supporters to remain calm and avoid skirmishes.
"This country is bigger than any political side. We must put the country first before all else," Khalid said.
