Gachagua: Two ex-CSs removed from KPCU ownership

Several MPs had questioned why the names of the two former officials were appearing in the institution’s registration documents.

The government has managed to repossess the new Kenya Planters Cooperative Union from two former cabinet secretaries, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said.

Gachagua said the names of the former CSs have been expunged from the list of directors and reverted to farmers.

“Alikuwa ameharibu mambo ya kahawa and majani chai. Kampuni ya KPCU walikuwa wamejiandikisha ikue yao…lakini tumetoa na kurudishia wakulima,” the DP said on Thursday.

Several MPs from the coffee growing zones had in November raised the red flag questioning why the names of the two former officials were appearing in the institution’s registration documents.

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba who is the chairperson of the 77-Member Parliamentary Coffee Caucus claimed a search from the Registrar of companies showed the two CSs were the owners with shares.

Speaking during a meeting in Machakos, Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga rooted for the formation of a judicial commission of inquiry to probe the agency.

KPCU is a state corporation under the Ministry of Cooperatives and MSMEs created to come to the aid of milling, warehousing, and marketing farmers' coffee affordably and transparently.
