Former Kasarani MP Elizabeth Ongoro is on Monday set to defect to President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance Party.

Ongoro is a member of opposition leader Raila Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement party after rejoining the outfit in 2020.

She is currently at the UDA headquarters for reception by top party officials.

Her defection from ODM could negatively affect Raila's support given that Ongoro has been a key political pillar for the ODM party in Nairobi politics.

Ongoro is also the elder sister to Rarienda MP Atiende Omollo, a close ally of Raila.

In 2017, the then-nominated Senator defected from ODM citing frustrations.

This was after Ongoro was asked not to run for the Ruaraka MP seat but refused.

Ongoro then defected to Amani National Congress (ANC), accusing the elements in ODM of frustrating her bid to contest the Ruaraka seat.

She then ran for the Ruaraka parliamentary seat on the ANC ticket under the Nasa coalition but lost to Tom Kajwang'.

In 2020, Ongoro was among ODM rebels that rejoined the party including Eliza, Jakoyo Midiwo and Reuben Ndolo among others.

Ongoro is perceived to be an aggressive political mobilizer in Nairobi and is associated with the Odinga family.
