The ruling party has warned the opposition against what it has termed a scheme to use night vigils for the victims of anti-government demos to disturb peace.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, United Democratic Alliance secretary general Cleophas Malala claimed the government has intelligence on Azimio's plans.

According to Malala, Azimio is planning to cause chaos at night after allegedly pretending to call off Wednesday's protests.

"Anybody who shall disturb the peace at night shall be dealt with," accordingly,'' Malala said.

Malala said that President William Ruto has directed firm action against any groups that could be planning to assemble at night to allegedly light candles across the country.

"The president has directed that there shall be peace. You want to hide behind the night vigils to disturb peace," Malala said.

The opposition coalition led by Raila Odinga is set to provide a detailed programme on Wednesday's candle-lighting plan after calling off street protests on Monday evening.

"Our people shall light candles and also lay flowers in honour of our people who have been killed by the police and those in hospitals,' Raila said on Tuesday during his international media conference.

Last week Azimio concluded its three days countrywide protests to protest against some of President Ruto's punitive policies.
