Legio Maria church has called on President William Ruto to reach out to retired President Uhuru Kenyatta after indicating he is ready to meet Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

Bishop Wycliffe Nyaperah said it shall be pleasing for Kenyans to see all leaders talking and sitting together as brothers and sisters of the same nation.

"We request the President to extend the same move to the former president, Uhuru Kenyatta. Let him visit him even at his house," Nyaperah stated.

Speaking to the Star, the bishop said the President tweeted a heart-warming message extending an olive branch to the opposition chief.

"I was really delighted to see him call Raila ‘my friend’ and further stated that ‘am available to meet one on one with you anytime’.

The tweet was not about Raila but to millions of Kenyans," he added.

Ruto has said he is ready to meet o Raila “anytime” after months of anti-government protests that have sparked international alarm and calls for dialogue.

“As you have always known, I am available to meet one on one with you anytime at your convenience,” Ruto said in a post addressing Raila on Twitter.

Nyaperah added that victims of the demonstrations should not be forgotten.

"Once our leaders meet and agree, I am sure they shall consider victims of police brutality. Those arrested should be released and medical bills of those in hospitals cleared," he said.

On July 10, Legio Maria urged Ruto to call Raila and agree on how best Kenyan problems can be addressed “without much drama”.

Nyaperah regretted that both the government and opposition have already taken a hard-line stand on how issues affecting Kenyans could be addressed.

Nyaperah said the talks between the two leaders should revolve around reducing the cost of living, and nothing else.

“Call your brother Raila and talk. Fix the high prices of commodities. Avoid overtaxing your people. Work with what you have. Listen more to the inner voice,” he stated.

Nyaperah added that the police and opposition showdown will not help solve anything for Kenyans.
