President William Ruto will over the weekend embark on a development tour of Mombasa as part of his intensified countrywide trips to counter the Opposition.

The president has recently heightened visits across the country following months of intense political pressure fueled by Azimio La Umoja's protests.

Ruto's Mombasa tour comes hot on the heels of his visit to Vihiga and Kisii counties last weekend as he sustained his counter-offensive against Azimio.

Last week, the president was in Taita Taveta for a thanksgiving service in which Governor Andrew Mwandime vowed to work with the Kenya Kwanza government.

The president's tour of Mombasa is strategic because it is one of opposition Leader Raila Odinga's most loyal strongholds.

Governor Abdullswamad Nassir is a key Raila ally who has not shied away from hosting the President.

United Democratic Alliance secretary general Cleophas Malala confirmed that the President will be in Mombasa over the weekend.

"The President shall be at the Coast over the weekend," he said.

On Tuesday, Malala held a meeting with grassroots leaders from Mombasa and agreed on the President's itinerary on Saturday.

The meeting followed a fallout among key UDA stalwarts from Mombasa County and which had threatened to spoil the President's visit.

Malala said the issues raised by the leaders from Mombasa shall be addressed when Ruto tours the region from Saturday.

"We have agreed that we are ready to receive the president in Mombasa," Malala announced after a meeting with the two factions.

Two factions allied to Nyali MP Mohamed Ali and East African Legislative Assembly member Hassan Omar have been fighting for the control of UDA in Mombasa.

They have recently held parallel grassroots mobilisation initiatives that have seen their supporters clash, triggering a standoff in the UDA leadership.

"We have listened to all the parties and we want to tell the people of the coast that the issues they have raised will be addressed going forward," Malala affirmed.

Both Ali and Omar vowed to put aside their differences to welcome the president and continue building the party.
