Former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Opposition Chief Raila Odinga and other Azimio leaders have given over Sh4 million to a fund set up to help victims of brutality during last week's demostrations.

Speaking at the SKM centre in Nairobi, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka said they had launched Citizen Emergency Fund' to help maandamano victims.

"Even as we continue to mourn, celebrate and pray for the victims, we're going a step further and launching a citizen's emergency fund to offer practical support to families of the dead and the injured," Kalonzo said.

The former Vice President thanked Uhuru and Raila for their contributions to the fund and gave a personal contribution of Sh500,000.

"I want to acknowledge with grateful thanks the contribution of our brother Uhuru Kenyatta of Sh1 million, and of our brother Raila Odinga of Sh1 million, and I'm escorting them with half a million shillings, " Kalonzo said.

Speaking during the launch, National Assembly Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi said MPs had given Sh1.5 million shillings for the victims.

Former Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa pledged Sh200,000 to the fund.

Kalonzo called on Kenyans to continue appending their signatures on the 'Tumechoka' website saying 8.2 million people had signed the petition as of Friday.

"As we speak the signatures as of today stand at 8.2 million and we are still counting. Please continue signing and be bold, courageous and stand very strong," Kalonzo said in his rallying call.

The leaders had attended a requiem service at the SKM centre in Karen Nairobi in honour of what they termed as victims of police brutality.

Azimio leaders led by former President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga were in attendance.

Azimio had called for the prayers in honour of protesters who were either injured or killed during last week's three days of countrywide protests called by the coalition to protest against the high cost of living.

The clergy led the prayer service and condemned what they termed as the execution of innocent civilians.
