Bungoma receives 258, 0000 bags of subsidized fertilizer

Bungoma farmers have received 258,000 bags of affordable subsidized fertilizer from the National government.

Speaking in Webuye on Thursday during the flagging off of the fertilizer, Bungoma County Governor Kenneth Lusaka said the fertilizer will boost food production within the county.

In addition, Lusaka applauded President William Ruto for fulfilling his promise to supply subsidized fertilizer to the farmers across the county.

“My administration provided affordable fertilizer to vulnerable farmers in Bungoma which has performed very well," the governor said.

"Farmers are also going to reap big during the second planting season now that we have been provided with subsidized fertilizer that will be stared at the National Cereals and Produce Board NCPB,L lusaka added.

To address the food insecurity in the region, Agriculture CEC Monicah Fedha said that Bungoma County administration donated farm inputs to 21,900 beneficiaries in the entire county.

“We donated 50 kilograms of planting fertilizers, 50 kilograms of top dressing and 10 kilograms of seeds to vulnerable farmers to ensure that there is food security,” she noted.

Fedha said Bungoma targets to get 400,000 bags of maize from those who received planting materials from the county government.

She also called on farmers to diversify saying: “Let us not concentrate on one type of farming, governor Lusaka has started an initiative called 'fuga kuku' let us embrace it and fight poverty,” she said.

Also present was UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala.

The former Kakamega County Senator said he has faith in President Ruto achieving the Kenya Kwanza plan stating that the price of the subsidized fertilizer was reduced from Sh3,500 to Sh2,500.

In attendance were Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama and Bungoma Deputy Governor Janepher Mbatiany.

The duo thanked Bungoma residents for shunning protests called by the Opposition. They said the demos were a waste of time and only meant to derail the government from fulfilling its agenda to the people of Kenya.
