Former Machakos Gender, Sports, Youth and Social Welfare County Executive Committee Member Onesmus Muasya has been replaced.

The position has been taken up by John Kilonzo Mwangangi following his swearing-in at Mavoko sub county offices on Monday.

Machakos Principal Magistrate Mary Otindo presided over Mwangangi’s swearing-in.

The event was witnessed by Governor Wavinya Ndeti among other officials from her administration.

Mwangangi said he shall diligently discharge his duties and perform his functions in the said office to the best of his judgement and at all times while required faithfully and truly give his counsel to the Governor of Machakos County.

Muasya tendered his resignation to the governor months ago, prompting his replacement.

“Many of you will recall that Onesmus Muasya who was serving as the CEC Member in that docket, tendered his resignation about two months ago, which I accepted,” Ndeti said.

Ndeti congratulated the incoming Sports executive for his new appointment to the position.

“Kilonzo joins my cabinet as an Executive Committee Member for Gender, Youth, Sports and Social Welfare after having gone through vetting by the County Assembly as well as other public agencies as required under the County Government Act (2012),” Ndeti said.

She said the replacement was necessary for the smooth operations of her government’s functions.

“In order to ensure smooth operations of the County Government functions, we had to have someone taking over the leadership of this critical docket,” Ndeti said.

She said she had confidence in the new CEC stating that he brings on board a wealth of experience from both public and private sectors where he served in various capacities.

“Kilonzo is a distinguished youth and sports champion. He is one of the founder members of Masaku Rugby Club and Masaku 7’s tournament. Currently, he is serving a second, 4-year term as a director of the Kenya Rugby Union,” Ndeti said.

“He is an academic giant who is also well grounded in the relevant theoretical aspects in various fields,” she added.

Kilonzo holds a Bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Nairobi (UoN) and an MBA from the United States International University (USIU).

“We expect him to deploy his experience in academics as well as his beautifully decorated career to mentor the young generation in Machakos County,” Ndeti said.
