Machogu: 408,879 students didn't apply for degrees, diplomas courses

Urges them to send applications, saying they can still secure the slots

The Ministry of Education has raised concerns over students who did not apply for university placement.

Education CS Ezekiel Machogu said 870, 561 candidates were eligible for placement to various universities and colleges.

However, several students who were eligible for placement did not apply for degree, diploma and certificate courses.

Out of 870,561 eligible students, 23,138 students did not apply for degree courses.

This represents 13.35 per cent of the total.

He added that 136, 592 students who qualified for diploma courses also did not apply.

"Equally, those who qualified for diploma courses in our various technical courses and middle-level colleges, a tune of 136, 592 which is 63.94 per cent have not applied for any diploma course," Machogu said.

Further, 249,149 students who qualified for certificate courses did not apply at all. The CS said that this represents 86.42 per cent of the total application.

Machogu was speaking during the release of the 2022 KCSE university placement results at the Kenya School of Government in Nairobi on Monday.

He called on those who did not apply to send their applications adding that they can still secure the slots.

"We are hoping that they should be able to apply because we still have capacity in our universities and technical institutions," Machogu said.
