Letangule: I will be fair and impartial if approved as DPP

He said he has helped resolve over 2000 matters and has thrived under pressure.

Aspirant for the vacant position of the Director of Public Prosecutions Thomas Letangule has said he will be fair and impartial should he be approved for the position.

Letangule on Tuesday addressed the media after his interview with the Public Service Commission.

"If I get a chance to be DPP of this country, I will be very fair and impartial. I will do my work. My work is already known as I have been with the IEBC and the glare of the media," he said. 

Letangule said he has helped resolve over 2000 matters and and has thrived under pressure.

"My track record is well documented and I will do my work without fear or favor," Letangule said. 

On matters corruption, Letangule said it is not a beast the DPP can fight alone.  The lawyer believes it would take inter-agency effort to cub the menace of corruption. 

"You must work closely with other players in the criminal justice system," he said. 

Admittedly, Letangule noted that the panelists asked tough questions during the interview but believes he did his best.

Letangule is among the 15 candidates shortlisted for the position with the two-day interview ending tomorrow.

The list also has Francis Andayi, lawyer Danstan Omari, Taib Ali, Jacinta Nyamosi, Victor Mule and Tabitha Ouya.

Others set for for the rigorous exercise are David Ruto, Winston Ngaira, Peter Mailanyi, Lilian Okumu, Jacob Ondari, James Ndegwa, David Okachi and Renson Ingonga.

At least three names of successful candidates will be submitted to the President after the interviews. The President will then pick one name that will be submitted to parliament for vetting

Should the MPs approve the nominee, the President will make the appointment.

The position became vacant after President William Ruto named Noordin Haji as the Director General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS).
