Gunmen shoot, kill lorry driver in Pokot ambush

Tension is high in a village in Alale, West Pokot after bandits ambushed and killed a lorry driver.

The incident happened in Kamnono village between Morita and Ombolion, where a civilian water bowser, which was being driven towards Takaywa, was ambushed by gunmen on Wednesday.

Police said Domo Kimkapel, 19, was shot and killed at the scene.

The assailants escaped as residents responded.

Elsewhere, a lorry driver was shot and seriously wounded by gunmen in Garissa on Wednesday morning.

The driver told police he managed to drive under a hail of bullets from the gunmen on the Garissa-Wajir road.

He stopped at the Modika Barrier and told police they were within Shihiya Gypsum site located in Malagisi area when two unknown people one armed with a rifle, shot at the vehicle.

The driver sustained a gunshot injury in the right leg. He was rushed to Garissa County Referral Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.

Police who attended the scene said no arrest had been made.

And in Bulla Muri, Iftin area, one Mohamed Abdi Sangweni was shot at by unknown persons within Kunasow village.

The victim said he had gone to collect firewood within the forest in the said village when three men armed with rifles appeared from nowhere and asked him who had given him permission to collect firewood from the piece of land.

They then shot him in the left ear before he ran for his life leaving his donkey cart behind.

He was later escorted to the hospital by a well-wisher.

At the scene, one spent cartridge of 7.62mm was recovered and kept as an exhibit, police said.
