Minor among three electrocuted in separate city incidents

Three people including a six-year-old girl were electrocuted in separate incidents in Nairobi.

The first incident happened at Amref Kibera Laini Saba area where the six-year-old girl was electrocuted.

Police said the girl had touched a naked electric wire from an electric pole when she was electrocuted.

The girl was walking past the pole where a naked live wire was hanging when she touched it on Sunday evening, Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said.

Her friends who witnessed the incident screamed for help and the girl was rushed to hospital where she succumbed while being treated.

“We have talked to relevant authorities to address the issue of the naked wire and others to avoid similar incidents,” Bungei said.

The second incident involved an electrician who was at work in the city.

An employee of Sunbeam Company, which is contracted by Kenya Power to do maintenance works was electrocuted in an incident in the city, police said.

The victim identified as Franco Oigo Omwoyo was accidentally electrocuted while doing maintenance work with colleagues of power poles at the Bunyala and Dunga roundabout within Landimawe, Nairobi.

He is said to have touched a live wire leading to the electrocution.

He was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

In Riruta a tenant was electrocuted while bathing. The body of Rwandan national Mames Vizingiro was found lying in a bathroom.

The management of the house alleged that the victim was electrocuted when a neighbouring perimeter fence suspected to be wired came into contact with the bathroom wall which was made of iron sheets.

The body which had an injury on the right shoulder and a cut on the face was moved to the city morgue pending autopsy, police said.

Police say the incidents are under probe.
