In Summary

  • Azimio leaders have claimed that the government is not supplying enough fertiliser in Nyanza
  • Article 27 of the constitution has the Bill of Rights outlaw any form of discrimination

Claims by Azimio politicians that there is bias in the distribution of subsidised fertiliser are disturbing.

Azimio chiefs have claimed the government is not supplying enough fertiliser in Nyanza because the region supports opposition leader Raila Odinga.

If the allegations are true, then this is unfortunate. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been saying that Kenya Kwanza “ shareholders” will benefit first from the Ruto administration.

Article 27 of the constitution has the Bill of Rights outlaw any form of discrimination.

It states that the State shall not discriminate directly or indirectly against any person on any ground, including race, sex, pregnancy, marital status, health status, ethnic or social origin, colour, age, disability, religion, conscience, belief, culture, dress, language or birth.

It further states that a person shall not discriminate directly or indirectly against another person on any of the grounds specified or contemplated in the clause.

It is therefore important that the government serves all Kenyans without favour.

Nyanza has previously suffered economic isolation because of its opposition role which is also provided for by the constitution.

Every Kenyan who pays tax is therefore entitled to government services irrespective of their political affiliation.
