National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has urged leaders from Western Kenya to support President William Ruto as he works to deliver the promises he made to Kenyans during the campaign period.
Wetang'ula said unity within the Luhya community is vital for the development of Western Kenya.
Speaking during the burial ceremony of Surveyor Peter Kapanga in the Kabuchai constituency on Friday, Wetang'ula stressed the urgent need for leaders in the western region to transcend political boundaries and collaboratively work towards shared objectives.
"Last year's general election in Kenya, though hotly contested, saw a clear winner emerge in President William Samoei Ruto. As we mark the one-year of his term, there is optimism for the future, and I want to urge Kenyans to be patient and allow the president time to implement his vision for the nation," he said.
Wetang’ula highlighted the importance of the ongoing bipartisan talks between the Azimio la Umoja Coalition and the Kenya Kwanza faction saying the discussions aim to find common ground and advance the country collectively.
"We have chosen Catherine Wambilianga to represent our party in the ongoing talks between Kenya Kwanza and the Opposition," the Speaker said.
Wetang'ula emphasised that peace remains a crucial factor for constructive development in the nation.
He commended the president's decision to reduce the cost of fertiliser, enabling farmers to reap the benefits during harvest and prepare for the upcoming planting season.
"As we enter the harvesting season, the reduction of fertiliser costs from Sh6,000 to Sh2,500 by our president provides a more affordable option for our farmers," he said.
In mourning the loss of Werunga, Wetang’ula remembered him as a dedicated member of the Ford Kenya Party, serving both Bungoma's residents and the nation with unwavering dedication and selfless leadership.
"While he was a cherished friend, he was also a true brother and our strong bond was a testament to the deep connection we shared. I'm committed to supporting his family—his wife and children—as they move forward into the future," Wetang'ula said.
Kapanga was eulogised as a dependable regional leader with ambitions to advance the Kabuchai constituency and its progress.
The event attracted notable leaders and citizens from across the region, who gathered to honour the deceased and discuss the path ahead for Mulembe Nation.
Among the leaders who attended the burial were Bungoma Senator Wafula Wakoli, Bungoma Women Representative Catherine Wambilianga, local area MP Majimbo Kalasinga, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, Sirisia MP John Waluke, former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, and various MCAs from the region.
