President William Ruto has said his administration is looking into exporting at least one million labour from Kenya.

Speaking during the opening ceremony of the Devolution conference in Uasin Gishu County, Ruto said the government is working to make sure that the available world-class labour can be exported.

"I want to thank the many countries that have given us the opportunity to export our labour. We want to get at least one million export from Kenya," he said.

Ruto added that in the Kenya Kwanza manifesto, it was clearly indicated that his administration will increase remittance from the diaspora from 4 billion dollars to 10 billion dollars.

"This is now our opportunity to create jobs. We have also advertised at least 14 county aggregation and industrial parks, and we have also gazetted five economic zones," he said.

"We must be intentional and deliberate in creating job opportunities for Kenyans so that we can improve their incomes and drive our progress."

The President's remarks echos that of Labour and Skills Development PS Geoffrey Kaituko who in March 2023 said the country would benefit more if we continue investing in skilled workers.

"Most of our workers are domestic employees who go to the Gulf countries, now we want to expand the access to more countries," Kaituko said.

He said the government is committed to opening up more opportunities in other continents.

"This year we want to invest more in our labour migration, our remittances have been almost Sh500bn but now we want to increase to Sh1 trillion," Kaituko said.
