Police are investigating an incident in which a man killed his two children before dying by suicide in Sunton, Kasarani.

The bodies of the children aged five and three were found in the house on Tuesday evening after the murder.

The body of their father Oliver Kimathi was found hanging on a truss long after he had died.

His wife was away at the time of the incident, police said.

According to the police, the couple had differed and argued before the woman left the house leaving the casual labourer, the children and a house girl in the house.

Moments later, the man called the housegirl and asked her to go and call the wife who was at a place known to him.

According to Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei, the house girl left the house and returned almost an hour later with the wife.

They found the gate to their house locked and efforts to get in were futile which forced them to seek help to access the house.

They used a neighbour to jump over the gate.

They then broke the door into the house where they found the bodies of the two minors.

They had been hit with a blunt object and stabbed.

The wife, house girl and neighbours then stumbled on the body of the man.

Police were called to the scene and helped move the bodies to the mortuary pending autopsy and probe.

Police say they are investigating the issue and the motive is yet to be known.

Elsewhere in Mandera town, police said they are investigating an incident in which a man killed his stepbrother in a fight.

The suspect identified escaped to neighbouring Somalia through the Bulahawa border following the August 8 incident.

Police say they are liaising with their Somalia counterparts to get the suspect for charges.
