Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya after being named DAP-K Party leader

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has been named the Deputy Party Leader of the Democratic Action Party (DAP-K).

The decision was unanimously endorsed by the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) during a meeting at the Westside Hotel.

These changes in the party leadership also saw the appointment of Bernard Masanja as the new National Secretary General of the party.

Masanja stepped down from his previous role as the Second National Party Leader.

The party named Dick Oyugi Maungu as the Organizing Secretary and Mohammed Adkikarim takes over the role of County Coordination Secretary.

The party is headed by former defence CS Eugene Wamalwa. Natembeya contested for the governor seat in Trans Nzoia through the party.

"I am proud of this party and quite happy to serve as Deputy Party leader," said Natembeya.

Party officials said Governor Natembya's endorsement represents a significant boost for the party, which has been steadily gaining ground across the country.

His appointment is expected to strengthen the party's presence, especially in Trans Nzoia and other regions.

A statement from the party said Natembeya brings a wealth of experience in public service, having held various prominent positions in the past.

Former MP Wafula Wamunyinyi welcomed Governor Natembeya to the party's top leadership.

"The governor has a huge potential contribution to the party's growth. He also brings with him a wealth of knowledge on how to manage the affairs of a county, a skill that could be of great use to the party," said Wamunyinyi.

Wamalwa emphasized the strategic importance of Natembeya's inclusion in the party's leadership, particularly in preparation for the 2027 election.

He expressed confidence in the new leadership team and pledged support for party activities nationwide.

Natembeya said he had fully accepted the position and pledged to ensure that deserving candidates have the opportunity to represent the party in the next general election.

The governor enjoys wide support in Trans Nzoia and his elevation could bolster the party image in the region.
