Police said John Kamau aka Faruk, was killed by police bullets as he fought a group of detectives who had cornered him at his hideout in the Soweto area.

Faruk shot and injured one of the officers who were out to arrest him prompting the other colleagues to open fire killing him.

A couple was arrested after they buried their seven-month-old baby in a shallow grave in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County.

The burial happened without a permit and at night, which has prompted a murder probe, police said.

Police got court orders to exhume the body of Blessing Mutheu as part of investigations into how she died.

This was after the parents told police the child fell sick and died last week.

Fire destroys cars

Officials are investigating the cause of a fire that burnt at least 10 cars at garages in Dagoretti, Nairobi on Saturday.

Police and owners at the premises said the fire broke out on Friday night from one of the garages before spreading to neighboring ones.

Owners of the damaged cars were counting losses after seeing the wreckages of the vehicles on Wanyee Road, Dagoretti Corner.

All the cars had been brought there for repairs, Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said, adding they are yet to establish the cause of the fire.

Children burnt

Three children are admitted to hospital after being burnt by a live wire in Ruai, Nairobi.

The children aged six, seven, and eight were in their residential flat and playing when the incident happened.

They include two girls and a boy.

The girls were first electrocuted and burnt after touching the cables.

When their cousin, a boy witnessed the burns he rushed to rescue them oblivious to the danger waiting for him.

Three shot dead

Three suspected thugs were shot dead by police in separate botched robberies in Nairobi.

Police say they recovered two pistols from the suspects.

The hunt for more suspects is ongoing, Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said.

According to police, the first incident happened along Juja Road where two suspects were killed as they escaped from a team of police who were pursuing them.

Murder probe

A pistol that was used in the cold-blooded murder of Detective David Mayaka in Kayole, Nairobi had been robbed from an aide to a former Cabinet Secretary.

Police said the pistol that fired the fatal shots, which took Detective Mayaka’s life was recovered on Tuesday morning, August 22 from a slain suspect linked to the murder.

The suspect John Kamau aka Farouk died in a hail of fire after he was cornered by police and defied orders to surrender, opting to shoot at the officers.
