As Kenya marks 13 years since the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution, Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has opposed any move to amend it.

There have been jitters among proponents of the 2010 Constitution that the political class could be scheming to amend the supreme document.

The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition deputy boss warned that instead of trying to review the constitution, efforts should be directed towards its full implementation.

''If we truly desire positive social change, then we must faithfully implement the letter and spirit of the constitution beginning with our national values #Katiba@13,'' Karua said in a tweet on Sunday.

The county is on August 27 marking exactly 13 years since the country adopted the 2010 Constitution during a ceremony at Uhuru Park, Nairobi.

Insisting that amending the constitution will not change the mindsets of leaders, Karua regretted that implementers have failed Kenyans.

''We have a great constitution which we have deliberately failed to faithfully implement, but are always eager to amend #Katiba@13,'' she said.

The Narc Kenya leader said the elephant in the room is lack of integrity across the board in the performance of public duty.

''Institutions are as good as the people manning them - equally a constitution is as good as it’s implementers. No amount of amendments will cure moral infirmity,''she added.

In August 2010, Kenya passed a new constitution after 20 years of attempts and a failed constitutional referendum in 2005.

It was officially promulgated on August 27 by then President Mwai Kibaki following a popular vote on August 4, 2010.
