Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and politician Kabando Wa Kabando are in a 'war' of words following the sacking of Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) Managing Director Alex Gitari.

Kabando had earlier alleged that the Kenya Kwanza administration wanted Gitari sacked.

"It was already in the books that President William Ruto's UDA was craving to oust KAA MD Alex Gitari. The excuse to sack him arrived last night. Rais won't sack his men - CS Murkomen & CS Chirchir," he said.

Kabando's comment did not sit well with CS Murkomen who told him off and even suggested that he should apply for the vacant position when it was announced.

"I challenge you to apply for the position of MD KAA when we advertise soon. If you convince the interview panel I will appoint you without hesitation," Murkomen said in a tweet.

Murkomen claimed that the former MP was suffering from the 'mtu yetu' syndrome over his comment adding that it is completely unnecessary.

"You don’t know me, I will deal with all the state departments and agencies under me professionally and I do not care about your tribe, I want results. Period!" Murkomen added.

On Saturday, Murkomen terminated the contract of  Gitari after Friday's power blackout which also affected JKIA leading to passengers getting stranded in darkness for at least two hours.

"By mutual consent, the contract of Mr Alex Gitari, who has been the managing director of Kenya Airports Authority, has been terminated" Murkomen announced.

It was reported that there was no electricity at Kenya's main international airport from around 9.45 pm.

While apologising, Murkomen however said that the power shortage did not interfere with the outgoing or incoming flights.
