The Pharmacy and Poisons Board has warned of a man who has been masquerading as an employee of the board to extort the public.

The PPB CEO Fred Siyoi in a statement on Tuesday said the individual uses several numbers to make calls or send text messages and exert pressure on various stakeholders in the pharmaceutical sector claiming to assist them in obtaining services from the board.

According to the board, the individual allegedly either texts or calls and extorts money with a promise of helping his victims get tenders at the board.

“The PPB has received concerning reports regarding an impostor….The individual has been engaging in unauthorised and deceptive activities, falsely asserting as an official of the PPB,” Siyoi said.

“The PPB strictly employs formal communication channels and does not initiate contact through such methods,” he added.

Siyoi has further called on victims to report such incidents to the police or directly to the board either through email or phone.

“Your vigilance is vital in helping us combat such scams and protect the integrity of our interactions,” the CEO said.

PPB is the drug regulatory authority established under the Pharmacy and Poisons Act, Chapter 244 of the Laws of Kenya.

The board regulates the practice of pharmacy and the manufacture and trade of drugs and poisons.

The aim is to achieve the highest standards of safety, efficacy and quality for all drugs, chemical substances and medical devices.

These include those that are locally manufactured, imported, exported, distributed, sold, or used.
