Vihiga county is set to receive two sports goodies following a visit by Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba.

Namwamba said Vihiga County will get a stadium and a sports academy.

He spoke on Wednesday during a tour of the county in the company of President William Ruto and other leaders.

"We will start the first sports academy in that school and we have decided to call it the Joe Kadenge Memorial Academy," the CS said.

Namwamba said he is well aware that Vihiga is the hotbed of talents and thus the county deserves a stadium.

He said Vihiga county leads women's teams in the Kenyan premier league.

"Vihiga queens, Madira girls, all of them are in the Kenyan premier league," Namwamba said.

He said he is in talks with Vihiga governor Wilberforce Otichillo for him to set aside the land for the coming stadium.

"To honour the sports heritage Vihiga has, we have an agreement with the governor that he will look for space because we want to construct a stadium here in Vihiga so that you can watch your teams play," he said.

Namwamba was in Vihiga after attending a Cabinet meeting at the Kakamega State Lodge, chaired by the President.

Ruto started his tour of Western Kenya over the weekend.

Other leaders who joined him are Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula.
