Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba outlined Friday his achievements in the ministry as he sought to shrug off allegations of failed leadership in the Ministry.

Ababu who spoke during the commissioning of Talanta Plaza in Nairobi asserted that when he came into office he “inherited a sporting and creative scene which was in absolute chaos”.

Contrary to the reports that sports personalities are not treated well, Ababu said it is within the short period he has been in office that he has managed to restore order in the ministry.

“I can report to you your Excellency without a shadow of a doubt, with no ambiguity and with no circumlocution that this team that you have given the responsibility is delivering exactly in the manner you have instructed,” he said.

He said sports personalities are now receiving the deserving honor unlike in the past.

The CS pointed out that until last month there were athletes who had represented the country and won medals but yet to be rewarded.

“We move with haste and revised the cash rewards and now we have a new scheme and we have also cleared all outstanding dues to our athletes going back over 10 years.

"We hosted Hongera Awards where we honored all our legends going back to the 1960s,” he stated.

He assured President William Ruto who presided over the event that he was firmly in charge.

Ababu also cited the world football governing body, Fifa had suspended Kenya from football activities but he managed to restore order after taking office. He added that Kenya can now host international matches.

“Because of the master plan that we developed, Nyayo National Stadium has been readmitted to host international games

“We inherited a scene where talents from schools went into wastage.  Today we have created a pipeline and a conveyor belt where all these talents are now flowing to the Kenya Academy of Sports.”

Terming the new facility a significant milestone, the CS said this will now bring together all the ministry’s departments under the roof noting that currently they are scattered, making it hard for coordination.

“When we came to office we found an abandoned building and construction site and in less than one year you can see the results of your government,” he said.
