President Ndayishimiye jets in for Africa Climate Summit

The Burundi President is the first Head of State to arrive in the country.

Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye has jetted into the country for the Africa Climate Summit.

Ndayishimiye arrived on Sunday afternoon and was received by Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua and Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha.

Mutua confirmed via a statement that the Burundian leader is the first Head 0f State to arrive in the country for the summit that starts on Monday.

"This afternoon I received the President of the Republic of Burundi who arrived in Nairobi to participate in the Africa Climate Summit. President Ndayishimiye is also the chairperson of the East African Community and the first Head of State to arrive in the country," Mutua said.

The Africa Climate Summit is scheduled for September 4 to 6. It will run alongside the Africa Climate Week which starts from September 4-8.

Over 30,000 delegates including over two dozen Heads of State and government are expected to attend the first ever Africa Climate Summit.

The event will be hosted at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre where security has been beefed up.

Interior CS Raymond Omollo said on Saturday over 4,000 officers drawn from the GSU and regular police will man the event and offer logistical guidance to the visitors.

A Cabinet meeting held on August 29 noted that the Summit will attract immense global interest.

"The Summit will be graced by over two dozen Heads of State and Government, high-level representatives of development partners and international institutions, as well as subject experts," the meeting noted.

President William Ruto chaired the meeting at the Kakamega State Lodge.
