Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen will on Monday evening take part in a high level panel discussion during the ongoing Africa Climate Summit.

Murkomen is expected to give official remarks during the forum before delving deeper as a panelist in the session that seeks to look into issues of investment in green transport in Africa.

According to Murkomen, the session underscores the significance of urban transport in reducing emissions.

The CS underscored the need for cities to prioritise sustainable modes like public transport, walking, and cycling.

This, he said, should be done through well-informed transport plans and clear commitments to invest in infrastructure.

“It calls for increased climate financing and coordination among development banks to support reforms and investments in sustainable transport systems including aviation and maritime,” he said.

“The focus also lies on policy reforms to encourage electrification and local manufacturing of e-mobility solutions, fostering partnerships between relevant stakeholders to achieve a widespread shift to electrification in African transport,” Murkomen added.

The summit taking place at KICC was on Monday officially opened by President William Ruto.

The summit which has attracted thousands of participants will run from Monday, September 4 to 6.

Over 30,000 delegates including over 25 heads of state and government are expected to attend the event.

Kenya's special Climate Envoy Ali Mohamed said they are certain the declaration will have an inclusive resolution that represents all stakeholders and aspirations of the continent.
