President William Ruto has assured Nairobi Community Health Promoters that they will not experience any delays in receiving their stipends.

He spoke on Monday at Uhuru Park in Nairobi where he was flagging off the distribution of 100,000 kits to be used by Community Health Promoters in household screening.

Ruto said the CHPs will receive their stipends digitally.

"I want to assure from next month when we launch this program, your stipend will come on time, and we will make sure that it is paid digitally," Ruto said.

"Naambiwa saa ingine inachelewa. Sasa mimi nataka niwahakikishie kwamba haitachelewa tena. Tutapanga vizuri. Huyu Sakaja ndo atakuja kutangaza."

He said there is an agreement between the national government and the Nairobi county government that they will cost share to give the health promoters their stipend.

100,000 CHPs have already been trained and will be unveiled on Mashujaa Day celebrations next month.

According to Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha, the training has been done together with other partners and with the Council of Governors.

"The county governments did the name of the CHP and the identification so we are happy that we are going to be launching on October 20,” the CS said at a past event.

The theme for this year's Mashujaa Day celebrations is Universal Health Care.

The celebrations will start with the UHC week which will run for a week before Mashujaa Day.

Ruto said the CHPs will play a critical role in decongesting hospitals in the country noting that minor ailments will be diagnosed and treated at the community level.

Also present at the event is Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua,  representatives from the World Health Organisation, Unicef, counties and other partners in the health sector.
