Police are investigating the circumstances under which a seven-year-old boy died in a fire incident in Villa area, Nairobi.

The boy was sleeping in their house when the fire broke out Tuesday morning killing him.

His body was discovered long after the fire had been contained, police said.

About 20 structures were destroyed in the fire incident rendering many homeless.

Police arrived at the scene minutes later and moved the body to the mortuary pending autopsy and other probes.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they are yet to establish the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, two suspects were arrested over the death of a four-year-old girl in a house in Kayole.

The suspects are the parents of the girl. This is after the two reported the girl collapsed and died in their house on Tuesday morning.

Police said the deceased girl’s body had visible injuries on the head and legs and private parts.

Police handling the case said they suspect the girl was defiled and that they will know more on the same after an autopsy that was planned for Tuesday afternoon.

The body was preserved at the Mama Lucy Hospital mortuary pending the autopsy. Police planned to produce the parents in court and seek more days to detain them as the probe proceeds.

Bungei said they are investigating a murder in the issue.

And police are investigating two cases of suicide in Murang'a and Kiambu villages.

The first reported case was in Gatitu village in Muruka location in Murang'a where a 23-year-old man died by suicide.

Police said they were informed the body of Kelvin Mburu was hanging on the rafters of their house with a rope tied to his neck.

The motive of the incident is yet to be known.

The second incident was reported in Muthithi Garden, Kiambu where Charles Maina Wambugu aged 58 hanged himself at a school compound.

The body was found hanging on the kitchen rafters and moved to the mortuary.

Police say cases of suicide have been on the rise amid calls to address the trend in the country. This is based on incidents reported.

Most of the victims are men and the trend is linked to societal trauma. There is a push to address the menace at large.
