Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o has called upon the national government to swiftly apprehend suspected criminals responsible for Sondu conflicts that left three dead on Tuesday night.

Nyong’o said it's unfortunate that even as President William Ruto is set to visit the lakeside city on Friday, some upstarts instigated ethnic clashes in Sondu along the Kisumu Kericho border.

He said it was reported that on Tuesday night alleged gangs armed with bows and arrows crossed over from the neighbouring county attacked residents on and around Sondu market, stealing castles and killing three people.

"We condemn this barbaric behaviour and the criminals must be apprehended and ensure justice is done to the affected families," he said.

He noted that the security team from the county were at the scene on Wednesday morning to restore peace and security within the area.

"Am grateful that we talked to the county commissioner this morning is at the scene already".

He also stressed the need to have a permanent solution the the constant conflict at the border.

"Crossing the border killing and stealing people's cattle can't solve the border issues," he said.

"I hope that we should find a lasting solution because it's very unfortunate that on the eve of the president's visits someone initiated the clashes at the border".
