Law Society of Kenya Vice President Faith Odhiambo has hailed her fellow law lecturers as part of marking World Teachers Day.

Odhiambo, a law lecturer at the University of Nairobi, described her colleagues as the fireless torch bearers in finding purpose for humanity.

Odhiambo is a candidate for the presidency of the law society, seeking to succeed the current president, Eric Theuri.

She took to her social media platform, hailing teachers as painstaking workers who guide formative days of students, guiding them with patience using different methods.

World Teachers Day was celebrated on Thursday.

“From one lecturer's desk to the classrooms, workshops, and lecture halls across the country, today, I am reminded of the multitude of educators like myself, each holding a candle for their students, spreading knowledge, and sowing seeds of curiosity. On this World Teachers' Day, I want to take a moment to celebrate each one of you,” she said.

Their roles differ, methods vary, but the goal remains singular - to enlighten, to inspire, and to elevate, she said.

She hailed teachers her colleague law lecturers like Prof. Patricia Kameri-Mbote, Collins Odote, Githu Muigai, Albert Mumma, Ben Sihanya, Jackson Bett, Nancy Baraza, and Naomi Njunguna.

Others she hailed include Samson Alosa, Constance Gikonyo, Wayne Mutuma, Wilfred Mutubwa, Ayamunda, Ruth Aura, Winnie Kamau,  Attiya Warris, Muthomi Thiankulu, Njaramba Gichuki, Agnes Meroka, Joy Asiema among others.

“To the ones who ignite imaginations with stories, to those who challenge and provoke thought, to the tireless souls correcting papers late into the night, to those who go beyond to resolve missing marks for students - I honour you.”

World Teachers Day is a day of recognition and appreciation for teachers around the world.

It is an occasion to celebrate the profound impact teachers have on society by equipping students with the skills, knowledge, and values needed for success.

This day also serves as a reminder of the importance of quality education and the role of teachers in achieving it.

World Teachers’ Day has a rich history dating back to 1966 when the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) established the Special Intergovernmental Conference on the Status of Teachers in Paris.

This conference adopted the UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which outlines teachers’ rights and responsibilities.

World Teachers’ Day was first celebrated on October 5, 1994, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the 1966 conference.
