Kenyatta National Hospital has issued a 14-day notice to the public to collect some 224 unclaimed bodies.

The bodies which are lying at the facility’s morgue are set to be disposed of after the lapse of the period, KNH said in a public notice dated October 17, 2023.

“Kenyatta National Hospital is in possession of a number of unclaimed bodies at its farewell home. Pursuant to the Public Health Act cap 242 (subsidiary legislation-public mortuaries rules, 1991),” it reads.

“Interested public is therefore requested to identify and collect the bodies within 14 days failure to which the hospital will seek authority to dispose of them.”

In the list, children account for the largest number at 210 out of which 115 are boys while 95 are girls.

Some 14 bodies are those of adults of which two are female while the rest are males.

One body of a male is said to be lying at Mwai Kibaki Hospital's farewell home.

This is not the first time the hospital has taken action over unclaimed bodies at its mortuary.

In July, it announced it would dispose of 233 bodies, children again being the highest at 123.

This was just one month after it disposed of another 238.
