Nakhumicha: Come out in large numbers for UHC launch on Friday

The Universal Health Coverage will be done on October 20.

Health CS Susan Nakhumicha has called upon Kenyans to turn up in large numbers for the launch of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The launch of UHC will be done during the upcoming Mashujaa Day Celebrations on Friday this week.

Speaking at the Kericho Green Stadium which is set to host the event, Nakhumicha lauded National Celebrations Steering Committee for preparing the ground sufficiently ahead of the special occasion.

"I'm impressed with the look of everything around Kericho Green Stadium which is the venue of the big day on Friday. I want to rally behind the Kenyan patriots to exhibit mass attendance of Mashujaa Day,” Nakhumicha said.

“The day will see this country witnessing monumental achievement in the health landscape through the roll-out of UHC that seeks to deliver quality and affordable health care to all without suffering financial challenges," she noted.

The CS together with her team at the Ministry of Health have been pitching camp in Kericho since Monday for the week-long pre-UHC launch health exhibition conference at the Kapkatet Stadium.

The thematic week helps evaluate the milestones made in the health sector as well as deliberate possible interventions and innovations that can aid the health sector and ensure success in the government’s plan for the execution of UHC programme.

Present during the Mashujaa Day mock function was Internal Security and National Administration PS Raymond Omollo who disclosed that it was all systems go for the Kericho programme.

Omollo said the military has been in charge of the facelift with area residents reaping big from the government's policy on local content.

This year's celebrations will centre on the Universal Health Care which is a crucial pillar aligned with the government's commitment to achieving the Kenya Vision 2030 targets.

In partnership with other United Nations member states, Kenya is working toward worldwide universal health coverage by the year 2030.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is the ability for persons to receive the health services they need without suffering financial hardship.

Kenya Vision 2030 aims to transform Kenya into a newly industrializing, middle-income country providing a high quality of life to all its citizens by 2030.
